Dr. Claretta Kerns

Dr. Kerns 9th year photo.jpg

This is my twentieth year in education and tenth year as Dean of Spartanburg County Early College High School (SCECHS). In addition to my administrative responsibilities as Dean, I teach freshman AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination).

It gives me great pleasure in seeing our students learn in our unique environment.

Our goal at SCECHS each day is “… to provide a small, personalized, academically supportive and challenging learning community that accelerates our diverse student population to become responsible citizens who are strong critical thinkers, collaborators, and communicators who can successfully meet and face the challenges of competing in a never changing global society” (SCECHS Mission Statement).

I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles California and my Doctoral Degree from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC.

I encourage students or parents to contact me via email with any questions or concerns kernsc@sccsc.edu .

I am looking forward to another exciting year at SCECHS.
