About Us

Spartanburg County Early College High School (SCECHS) at Spartanburg Community College (SCC) is an innovative partnership between the seven Spartanburg County School Districts and SCC. This program was developed to graduate students with a High School diploma and the first two years of transferable college credit or associate's degree in preparation for high growth and high demand jobs of the 21st century.

What do we offer?

  • A small and  personalized learning environment for up to 100 students to join.

  • Programs that blend both High School and College level courses into a coherent educational program.

  • Safe and comfortable environment that supports student growth and socialization.

What are the benefits?

  • Provides all students with focused guidance and support through the first two years of college.

  • Introduces a new method of integrating both high school courses and college prerequisites to better serve intellectual development and growth of students.

  • Allows for students to graduate with both a High School Diploma and Associates of Arts degree.

What Sets Our Students Apart?

  • Each year SCECHS will enroll a maximum of 25 rising ninth-grade students from the 16 middle schools in Spartanburg County

  • Are at risk of not achieving a high school diploma

  • Would benefit from accelerated academic instruction

  • Are the first in their immediate family to attend college

  • Are part of an historically underrepresented group in postsecondary education

  • Are part of a low income family

  • Have special family circumstances

Factors used for Decision

  •  Rising ninth grade students

  •  Students with high academic potential

  •  Average to high test scores

  •  2.0 - 3.5 grade point average (GPA)

  •  College potential with support

  •  Desire and determination

  •  Self directed and focused

  • No behavioral issues

Goals

  • Improve high school graduation rates and better prepare students for family-supporting careers

  • Make  higher education more accessible, affordable and attractive by bridging the divide between high school and college

  • Provide needed guidance and support from educators through the first two years of college

  • Facilitate the transition of motivated students to higher education

  • Demonstrate new ways of integrating levels of schooling to better serve the intellectual and developmental needs of young people.
